REAL DUI COURT IN SCHOOLS PROJECT
The Administrative Office of the Courts (AOC) has partnered with the Office of Traffic Safety (OTS) to develop the Real DUI Court in Schools Project. This project seeks to expand driving-under-the-influence (DUI) prevention programs, such as DUI court trial and sentencing programs and the National Judicial College’s “Courage to Live Program” in middle schools and high schools throughout California. To achieve this aim, the AOC, in collaboration with the California Channel, broadcast the DUI sentencing program, “Choices & Consequences,” to middle and high schools throughout California via live cable television and Webcast.
Two broadcasts aired on February 21 and May 1, 2008, originating from two schools in the Stockton/Tracy area. During the program, Judge Richard Vlavianos, of the Superior Court of San Joaquin County, presides over the sentencing hearing and facilitates the educational portion that follows. Testimonials are heard from both a DUI victim and an offender. Broadcasts were viewed live by nearly 100 schools throughout the state.
DVDs of the “Choices & Consequences” program broadcasts are now available for use in the classroom. Registration is free, but we ask that you register your school or classroom if you intend to participate, and also take part in the professional evaluation. Detailed instructions and forms for the evaluation can be found on the Surveys page.

⇒ View an actual DUI sentencing
⇒ Learn facts and statistics about DUIs
⇒ Learn about the consequences of a DUI for individual drivers, crash victims, and local communities, and
⇒ Participate in a statewide evaluation of the DUI sentencing program model "Choices & Consequences."
